Are you taking gabapentin or pregabalin (brand names include lyrica, alzain Neurontin)

The changes outlined below come into affect from April 2019. These changes follow a government consultation because of concerns around misuse and will mean that these drugs become Controlled Drugs (CDs)

What does this mean to you:

  • prescriptions will expire 28 days from the date on the prescription
  • any pharmacy owings will be collected by the expiry
  • quantities may be reduced to a maximum of 30 days
  • you will need proof of identity to collect from pharmacy
  • you will need to sign when collecting your prescription
  • emergency supplies and loans cannot be made from pharmacies if you run out

Prescription Requests


We are able to take prescription requests in a number of ways:

  • By post - please enclose a stamped, addressed envelope.
  • In person - we have a box for requests located in the entrance area of the surgery
  • Over the internet - by accessing the "online services" tab and selecting "online services log in"
  • Directly with your chemist - this is only an option if you are considered vulnerable and unable to order and manage your medications yourself. Many chemists offer a collect and deliver prescriptions, please contact your local chemist directly for further information.

Please note prescriptions that are ordered before 3pm will be available 48 hours later after 3pm (i.e. ordered Monday before 3pm ready Wednesday after 3pm OR Friday before 3pm ready Tuesday after 3pm). If your order is placed after 3pm it will not be processed until the following day and will be ready after 3pm, 48 hours later.

If you have a nominated pharmacy, your prescription will be transferred automatically to your chosen pharmacy.

Pharmacy dispensing times do vary, please contact your pharmacy for clarification when you can collect your prescription if required.
